An industrial venturimeter is a flow-measuring device that is used for measuring the flow rate of liquids, gases, and steam flowing through a closed pipeline.
Unlike mechanical flow meters, a Venturimeter has no moving parts. It determines flow by creating a pressure differential as the fluid passes through a specially designed constricted section known as the throat.

Working Principle of an Industrial Venturimeter

1. Section Converging
The fluid flows through the converging part of the venturimeter.
As the diameter of the pipe gradually reduces:

2. Part of the throat
The narrowest part of the venturi meter is the throat.
At this stage:
- Fluid hits maximum velocity
- The static pressure is at its minimum

3. Expansion Section
The fluid then passes through the throat and into the diverging section.
Here:
- Decrease in flow velocity
- Pressure is slowly returning
